The garden, situated in the newly developed town center of Shenyang's Hunnan District, is a stone's throw away from the Shenyang Municipal Center and is surrounded by commercial areas, urban ecological parks, and the Liaoning Provincial Library. The design was inspired by the elegance of ballet and the rational lines found in Piet Mondrian's classic paintings. These seemingly disparate elements have been seamlessly integrated to create a geometric residential garden that exudes modern simplicity and sensuality.
One of the unique features of the Zhonghai Tianyu Garden is its division into outdoor rooms that serve as community gathering spaces. Each space is designed for leisure and entertainment, creating a beautiful environment suitable for living, recreation, and work. The garden has become a popular destination for residents, bringing neighbors together and fostering a sense of community. The design's focus on the combination of nature, culture, and people has set a precedent for future development.
The garden's realization technology is another aspect that sets it apart. The landscape is divided with straight lines to create an artful entrance gallery and a quiet leisure center courtyard. Three different ballet-inspired sculptures add a playful elegance to the landscape, subtly guiding pedestrians through the spaces. The central ballet sculpture, which gracefully revolves on a reflective pool of water, brings inspiration, meaning, and soul into the courtyard.
Vegetation plays a key role in enhancing the sense of geometric space in the garden. The plant selection, which includes Chinese Ash, Siberian apricots, Ginkgo trees, and Maple trees, was chosen for its ability to weather the region's extremely cold winter weather and provide a dynamic change throughout the seasons. Landscape site lighting has been used to define the artistic elements within the garden and create warm outdoor spaces that are usable at night.
The Zhonghai Tianyu Garden covers an area of about 25535 square meters, with a landscape design area of 20,900 square meters. It was designed by a team of experts from Ecoland, including David Yuezhong Chen, Xiao Mo, Weimin Tian, Tingqian Chen, Yuanxin Yang, and Zhenming Wang. The project started in 2018 and was completed in May 2019.
The garden's design has been recognized with a Silver A' Landscape Planning and Garden Design Award in 2021, a testament to its innovative and expertly executed design. As Ecoland continues to push the boundaries of landscape design, the Zhonghai Tianyu Garden stands as a shining example of their commitment to blending art, architecture, and nature in a way that serves the community and enhances the quality of life for its residents.
